The need to pick up a camera was, at first, to document the world around me. However, in doing so I discovered so much more. Photography, specifically analog photography, gave me a license to see. It was an awakening to the beauty that light can create.
A photograph has the potential to tell a story, some obvious while others need to be induced. It grants the ability to reveal secrets the world has been hiding and only once time is frozen can my perception of the world be revealed.
This awakening made me realize that looking at what is there is not always as effective as looking for what is not there. To not make a photograph of what is in front of my lens, but to create an image of how my eyes see what is in front of them.
